Anderson Announces $550,000 for Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority

HARRISBURG – Rep. Marc Anderson (R-York) today announced a $550,000 Multimodal Transportation Fund grant for the Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority to help make needed improvements at Capital City Airport in Fairview Township. Funding was appropriated by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA), an independent agency that administers Pennsylvania’s economic stimulus packages.

The funding will specifically be used to restore the airport’s apron, which is showing extensive wear and is in critical need of renovation to continue supporting the airport’s operations. Capital City Airport is a critical link in the regional transportation network, with 115 based aircraft and approximately 24,500 operations conducted out of the airport annually. The project will include removing and replacing deteriorated pavement, repairing the underlying base structure and upgrading related infrastructure, including stormwater drainage systems. Improvements include the installation of new asphalt binder and wearing courses, subbase reconstruction where needed, inlet adjustments, tie-down installation and permanent pavement markings.

“I was so pleased the Commonwealth Financing Authority approved this needed funding for the airport,” said Anderson. “I had the opportunity to visit the airport earlier this month and although it is a smaller regional airport, I learned just how critical it is to our area’s transportation infrastructure. The airport supports public safety, flight training, executive travel and general aviation services across the entire region. Maintaining safe operations at the airport is essential.”

Multimodal Transportation Fund grants can be used for the development, rehabilitation and enhancement of transportation assets to existing communities, streetscape, lighting, sidewalk enhancement, pedestrian safety, connectivity of transportation assets and transit-oriented development.
